A warm welcome to my personal creation of a roadmap to magical moments
What to expect from this Substack, motherhood moments, personal diary and what else could happen...
Let me introduce myself …
Hi, I am Laura, originally from the Black Forest (yes, it´s a real fairy tale location) in Germany, I lived in Iceland, Guatemala and now in my home of choice: the UK. Although I am not fully settled in my dream location - which would look somewhat like the surrounding of the above picture - instead I am currently living in Glastonbury, where I have freebirthed my son last year and deepen my work with the sacred landscape whilst dreaming of fresh flowing scottish rivers and irish meadows.
As you might notice finding and making a home is a major topic in my life, especially now as a growing family with a partner who also has a say in where to go - or not.
I aim to let you in some vulnerabilities of my journey, the attempts to settle and the challenges to enter a renting market as a self-employed mother.
I never had issues with housing, even in madly popular places such as Freiburg in Germany and ReykjavÃk in Iceland where I studied and worked, I always found a lovely abode that i got to call my home and that I made beautiful - and that I could afford with a barista or freelance job.
Now, its not just me anymore and my standards are higher, my people-pleasing allowance lower and my budget - well… kind of the same. However my work did change, I am fulfilled with purpose of creating offerings and services that change lives and seed magic into our mundane world.
I also anticipate the start of a homeschool teacher role which might come with new connections and a possible new home. Until then: huge gratitude for my good friend who lets us rent the downstairs room of her house which she uses as an airbnb. Not ideal with an explorative 1 year old who loves to beat the drum (and every surface, especially my guitar) but also very lovely at times, when guests are grateful for this sunny boy´s smile and cuddles, a homemade cup of cacao and stories about Avalon.
That leads me to my profession before I deepen the home finding situation too much - I simply wanted to outline what´s to come.
My education background is visual arts, literature, language and education with a master in all of the above. I used to study in two different cities, a university and an art academy, including a year abroad in Iceland (gosh how I miss this country). I acted in various german and english theatre groups and worked as a freelancer for cosmetic and skin care products on the weekends and swore to myself never to work in retail again.
Against all odds - and my insecure craving for safety and a stable job financed by the government (who was this person???) - I became self-employed working with a legal plant medicine: ceremonial cacao; Creating ceremonies, holding space, facilitating courses, performing wedding speeches and working as a celebrant and teaching other practitioners.
Living at the magnetic Lake Atitlán in Guatemala not only deepened my relationship with pure chocolate and its heritage but more so with my own! I got called by the Lady of the Lake who summoned me onto her shores to remind me of my literature studies of Arthurian legends and to explore my childhood dreams: Celtic faery lore.
I ended up moving to Glastonbury, devoting myself as priestess of Avalon and after a rather disturbing six months I got to practice and integrate my values and morals through real life initiations. I met my wonderful partner and got pregnant - another wild rollercoaster of relationship challenges and work and life changes.
So you can expect some writings on inner work, conscious relating and maybe even birth prep. Mainly though I hope to make space regularly to write down some mundane moments that are reminders of the magic of being alive.
Motherhood, parenthood, holding a child and letting it crawl out of your arms. And feeling their firm grasp for the first time as they figured out how to hold on to you, pull you towards themselves and give you the most delicious cuddle.
[EDIT: I ended up writing most about mythology and inner work, my passions - vulnerable life challenges and devoted research included]
In short:
HOME
MOTHERHOOD
LIFE UNFOLDING
Writing the known into the unknown.
Thank you for coming along for the ride. I don´t know if it´ll be rough or smooth - either way I vouch for a testimony of embodiment, hope and joy.
