To be honest I still feel like I am clearing out 😂 which is great though, as this is exactly why we call these nights Rauchnächte = Smokey/incense nights! The smoke serves to clear out the old year to welcome the new and it’s a process that takes time sometimes. In a way it’s the whole midwinter season that is being cleared out until, well, midwinter is over hehe. You will notice a shift in energy towards the next weeks, especially with candlemas/Imbolc around the corner and the Chinese new year on February 10th. I really dedicate to a slow start in the Gregorian year this time round to prepare for the actual astrological new year on spring equinox. So more Dreamtime to come and less pressure to get it all done in a certain amount of time!
Yes! A slow start. That feels wonderful. Our ancestors were deep in the winter cave this time of year. It's in our blood to tend towards stillness right now. Our strange tradition of new year's resolutions and jumping into doing at the start of the calendar year is a bit backwards. Just like you're teaching us with your Ruachnächte rituals, this is the time for dreaming.
This is exactly it, Jenna. I’ve been trying to make this point last year when I wondered why we celebrate the light returning on winter solstice and then again celebrate the longest light day on ss. Not that don’t like the sun, my bday is on June 21st, so give it to me haha. But I started to think that it feels like a piece is missing. That of reference for the dark, the primal goddess, the earths in all her phases, the women in all their ages and us humans as creators of nature not only capitalist machines. Just wrote something along those lines, and mentioned you again, I hope that’s ok. As I was searching for a Substack tarot geek who wrote something about the temperance card, I found your archetype article, which is perfect! So yeah, hope you don’t mind, it wasn’t planned but I simply couldn’t find anyone else talking about the temperance plus you just highlighted exactly what I was after!!!
